Application
The North Texas Electrical Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee accepts applications year round for apprenticeships in the electrical construction industry. Applications will be taken Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays ONLY, at 8:30 AM ONLY, with the exception of holidays (other application times may be available by appointment). Applications are open to all persons regardless of age, race, creed, national origin, or sex.Minimum Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must be a high school graduate or have a GED
- One year high school algebra or the equivalent, with passing grades (GED algebra not accepted)
- Physically capable of doing electrical construction work - All applicants who are accepted into the Apprenticeship Program will have a drug screen and may be required to take a physical exam which will include color blindness.
Required Paperwork Before Interview
- Copy of Birth Certificate
- Official High School Transcript
- Veterans - DD214 as proof of service
- GED Certificate (if applicable)
- Valid Drivers License / State ID
- Social Security Card
- College Transcript (if applicable)
Interview
The Apprenticeship Committee (6 members) will notify applicants of the date and time of their interview. Interviews are held at the Electrical Training Center. The Committee will select the people they feel are the top prospects for the electrical industry. Points that can be taken into consideration at the interview are educational background, extent of math background, character, interest, cooperativeness, attitude, and personal appearance.Term of Apprenticeship
The term of apprenticeship is 8,000 hours of on-the-job training divided over 5 years and 192 hours (2 semesters) per year of related classroom instruction, plus 1 semester of math refresher.On-The-Job Training
Applicants selected will start their on-the-job training as soon as there is a job opening. Starting salary is currently $11.45 an hour with increment raises throughout the program, plus sharing in fringe benefits, such as FREE family health insurance, FREE retirement and FREE annuity. The Journeyman Electrician rate at this time is $22.90 per hour.*School
Classes are held at the Electrical Training Center, one day every two weeks from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. There are 2 semesters per year. Apprentices will be notified as to the date and time school starts. College credit is given for apprenticeship classes towards a Degree in Electrical Construction through North Lake College/Dallas County Community College District.Cost
Apprentices purchase their books and pay tuition. Books for Math Refresher Class ($65.00) - First year books ($300.00) and each year thereafter ($200.00 - $250.00). Tuition is $156.00 per semester for Texas residents. Out of State resident tuition is considerably higher. Tuition is paid at the beginning of each semester and books are purchased once each year.
